The Suter Art Gallery

Nelson

A significant building redevelopment project is underway at The Suter Art Gallery in Nelson, due for completion in October 2016.

In keeping with the original design features, a marriage between the historic elements of the original gallery and new contemporary features will see The Suter, New Zealand’s oldest art gallery turned into a vibrant regional arts centre for the 21st century. Design architects Jerram Tocker & Barron and Warren & Mahoney Architects opted for Connexx entrance matting as part of the new foyer due to its durability for high traffic flows. Its high absorbency inlay also ensures the original floors from 117 years ago stay clean and dry. Tredsafe AA123 with Safety White Zebron glow insert has been used on the stairs throughout the gallery and theatre in compliance with NZ Standard 1421:2001. The combination of bright white and glow in the dark makes the insert highly visible for reduced light conditions and the visually impaired. The diamond tred pattern of the insert also provides excellent anti-slip properties and is hard wearing and able to endure heavy traffic. Aecom House

Auckland

AECOM is an American multi-national engineering, headquartered in California. For the New Zealand office located in Auckland, AECOM wanted to create a space with the WOW factor.

This was complimented by a large statement staircase. Using Tredsafe’s stair nosing lessened the chance of a slip or fall, while complimenting this aesthetically pleasing structure. This design uses AA122 with Neutral Black insert on rubber stairs. The office is based on 8 Mahuhu Crescent, Auckland CBD, Auckland 1010

ACG Tauranga Gymnasium

Tauranga, New Zealand

ACG Tauranga is a private co-ed school owned and operated by Auckland-based ACG Education, formerly known as the Academic Colleges Group.

The day school opened in 2015, initially with places for students up to the ninth grade but now teaches kindergarten through 12th grade.ACG’s three-story gymnasium, completed in May 2017 by Hawkins Construction Limited, is a multipurpose facility intended for use not only by the school’s PE department but also intercollegiate sports teams and the community at large. With a maximum capacity of 500 and frequently rainy weather, slip and fall hazards were of paramount concern. The gym’s rubber compound floor was designed to accommodate a wide range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer. Its ground floor includes a full-sized court, changing rooms, and P.E staff offices and storage. On the second floor are a fitness center and an open area with kitchen facilities, and on the top floor are three classrooms.A number of different surfaces required stair nosing and transition trims. For the carpeted stairs in the upstairs seating area, Tredsafe’s AA123 stair nosing was used with a Safety White 101, 53mm insert to create a neat and attractive profile. DT031 height-transition trim was used between the carpet and polished concrete. AA207 was used on the concrete stairs, chosen for its ramped back edge, which prevents trip hazards on uncovered stairs. Twin 1.7-inch inserts reduced slip hazards while allowing for two different colors if desired. All three Tredsafe products chosen by Hawkins Construction, who won a 2018 New Zealand Institute of Architects Award in the educational category for the $5.5 million project, are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Made from durable anodized aluminum, all stair nosings included anti-slip inserts with a large tread pattern that keeps water from accumulating on their surface, particularly important given the wear and tear of outdoor-to-indoor traffic in often wet conditions.

Everybody Eats

Auckland, New Zealand

Everybody Eats is a ‘pay-as-you-feel’ dining concept for everyone. Started by Nick Loosely in November 2019, there are two restaurants in Auckland – Onehunga and K Road. The eatery serves restaurant quality, three course meals, prepared by volunteer chefs, from perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste.

Their mission is to reduce food waste while bringing people from all walks of life together. Everybody eats has saved over 30 tonnes of food from both restaurants combined, by using food that otherwise would have gone to landfill. They have provided more than 30,00 restaurant-quality meals to people, most of who could not afford to pay. In New Zealand, the contrast between the amount of food we throw away and the number of people going hungry every day is a scary one. Around one third of our produce ends up as landfill contributing to global warming, while many New Zealanders live below the poverty line. Summarising the problem as ‘one of the worst food poverty issues in the developed world,’ Loosley has established Everybody Eats as New Zealand’s first pay-as-you-feel system. A model that has been used widely (and successfully) in the UK.

With a combination of vinyl from Jacobsen and AA123 stairnosings with Neutral Black insert, we at Tredsafe are pleased to support communities actively supporting hunger and food waste in New Zealand. Having Tredsafe’s anti-slip nosings and insert in a restaurant like Everybody Eats, creates a safe atmosphere that reduces the changes of slips and falls for customers dining in the restaurant.

The nosings have been used on carpeted stairs and complement the dark coloured carpet. The contrast between the carpet and the aluminium highlights the edge of the step so that people using the stairs are less likely to trip or fall.

Nick Loosely was awarded the New Zealand Local Hero of the Year award by Kiwibank which aims to identify and celebrate everyday people doing extraordinary things in their local communities. Tredsafe are proud to have supported such a meaningful initiative, creating a safe flooring environment for a cause with a hugely positive impact on the community.

Hingaia Peninsula School

Auckland, New Zealand
